The Rise of Vaping and E-cigarettes in Teens

Vaping trends among teens is growing very quickly, e-cigs are dangerous to developing teens and their long term health. E-cigarettes rose to fame because they give the “user” vapor rather than smoke like you would with cigarettes.

*For  future reference of this post when referring to "teens" we mean the age group of 8th graders through 12th graders.

Vaping of marijuana is on the rise” this probably isn't the first time you have heard this, and unfortunately it won't be the last. But were you aware that it is on the rise for teens?

According to the NIH-funded study teens preferred nicotine vaping flavors mint and mango of e-cigarettes. Seeing as how this is such a big market with so many brand options and fast changing and evolving markets. It is important to note that the NIH study only focused on JUUL products. Seeing as how teens are especially targeted by vaping trends seeing a drop in regular cigarettes among 12th graders now at 5.6 percent down from 7.6 percent last year and 13.6% of five years ago.

The National Institute on Drug Abuse found that there are twice as many boys than girls using e-cigs.

Another recent survey found that teens teens don't actually know what is in their e-cigs. According to the NIH survey:

  • 66% answered just flavoring
  • 13.7% answered they don know
  • 13.2% answered marijuana and,
  • 1.3% answered other.

This by no means translates to it being a teens fault, or even a parents fault. Manufactures are to blame because they do not have to report what their ingredients are.
